COMMUNICATIONS
COMMITTEES
We just don’t do very well in our society without communicating.
We want to share the wealth of information that our families have
collected about our ancestors. This process includes a fair amount
of communicating. We have chosen to do this through a John Marriott
Historical Society Website. This is also key to the concept of
storage. By taking our boxes, stacks, books and other holders and
scanning them, we have a permanent storage system that is available
to anyone who has a computer. Uploading scanned information is
the key to building our website library of family information.
Free downloading to our membership and friends is the key to “SHARING
WITH THE FAMILY”. When we share we also give others a chance
to add lost information and make corrections to our information.
A quarterly newsletter will capture new “stuff” about
which we are excited to share and help us stay organized.
GENERAL CHAIR: Margo Shaw
Website Subcommittee
Mission
We have chosen the John Marriott Historical Society
website as the primary method
of communication to the Marriott Family at large and to our
wonderful members. We
still can send messages by postage, but because of the cost,
have chosen our priority to
be the website. This exiting technological advance, using
the internet has opened our eyes to endless possibilities
of sharing,
storing,
viewing, building and enabling the story of the Marriott
family to be known to all of us. Many of us have boxes of “stuff”,
of history, of great ancestral worth. It is unusable because
it is in our closets and attics and garages. NOW IS THE TIME
TO SHARE.
Many noble histories will be found for the first time by people
who thought an ancestor’s past was lost by the years.
IT IS UP TO US TO FIND AND MAKE KNOW AND SHARE.

Telling the story of the John Marriott Historical Society is a
critical function in its growth and fulfillment of it goals and
purposes. It will take hundreds of people in the family as well
as friends to reach out and save our printed and oral family

they
are not interested in it. We must share our story with ourselves
and others through public relations.

Marketing Subcommittee
Mission
We are not really in the business of selling our organization,
for a profit, but for a “non-profit”. We need income
to grow the organization. We can receive help because of our
large size from for profit organizations that provide services
in the
family history and genealogical research areas. We will invite
these organizations to advertise on our website and in our publications
for a fee and offer our members a discount.

- Contact professional genealogical research companies, publications,
providers of equipment like scanners and computers, and
other organizations that could advertise with us for a fee and
