FAMILY ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTEES

Family Organizations Subcommittee

Mission
John Marriott Historical Society is a prototype or template family organization for other families. Since we are not having any information in the organization or website for the generations after the 3rd generation after John Marriott, Sr., we are encouraging all of our members to have their own websites for their families. Each family can decide how many families will go together to form the family organization. We hope each will choose to have a family website to provide easy member communication and coordination of calendars, birthdays, events, genealogy research, etc. We want our society to provide unpaid consultants to families who want to do this and offer books and other material on our website that will help form these new family organizations.

Functions:

  1. Start with the 4th and 5th generation after John Marriott, Sr. and offer the family representatives help in forming their own family organizations and websites.

Chair: Russ Marriott

Family Websites Subcommittee

Mission
Because of the powerful communications abilities of a family website, we are offering this John Marriott Historical Society website as a template to members of the society to create their own websites. This website has a retail value of about $10,000. We are offering our members a duplicate copy, with the option of customizing it to the family’s particular specific needs, for a small charge through 1FN. The society will receive a small royalty, since our contributors paid for the website construction.

Functions:

  1. To be determined.

Preservation Methods Subcommittee

Mission
Preserving old, antique items to be sustained into the future is an ever evolving science that is hard to keep track of. For that reason, we feel that it would be in the interest of our member for some of us to be very knowledgeable or find those who are experts to lend their expertise to the society. We want information on preserving photos, documents, newspaper articles, etc. that become yellowed or deteriorate over time. We also want to understand how the computer replaces the micro-fish as a resource for long term storage and retrieval of old documents and material.

Functions:

  1. Invite professions to present information to the subcommittee members to determine if their products and services should be in our website vendor section.
  2. Do internet searches to determine information that is available to the public that we could make available by linking to our website.
  3. Hold seminars for our members on preservation methods and processes.
