HISTORY
COMMITTEES
The history of the Marriott family has need of being documented
by family and friends. We desire to preserve the precious moments,
challenging events and drab realities of our changing history,
from ancestral farmers and tradesmen to today’s professional
city dwellers. We want to contrast those who still are on the farm
with farms of yesteryears. We would like the current wisdom of
our cultures, religions, races, technology, geography, arts, and
politics to be influenced by the knowledge of our family past.
GENERAL CHAIR: Jim Marriott
Biographies/Diaries Subcommittee
Mission
This will be a collection of biographies written about our ancestors
and some autobiographies and original diaries. Authentication of
the material will be a key factor in our success. We will cherish
original hand written copies of antique material that has been
handed down from generation to generation. Where possible, we will
correlate a photo of the person into the material.
Functions:
- Organize the biographies on the website.
- Have contests for the best written biography of the year.
- Condense biographies of key ancestors like Elizabeth Stewart
where there are several that have not been combined.
- Contact members to locate diaries and biographies and family
histories where there are none that currently exits, hoping
that they are in closets and boxes and have not been offered
to the
family at large.
- Work with Hermoine Jex to find family histories and documents
that were not able to be included in the Red Book and
her hand written Marriott genealogy research papers.

Family Histories Subcommittee
Mission
Our original immigrant ancestor, John Marriott, Sr. has spawned
generations of descendents with hundreds of last names, uniting
thousands of people together for eternity. We celebrate that heritage
by bringing together in words the histories of these families.
It is our lot to gather for all to enjoy this valued information,
for us to ponder and learn from. As our families expand and the
world’s challenges grow, their histories invite us to look
backward in time for advice and wisdom, to our founding family
fathers and mothers. We honor the twining together of the history
of our ancestors.
Functions:
- Contact family representatives in order to find
family histories
- Produce coordinated histories of family for the website
- Teach individual members of families how to write a family
history
Chair: John Marriott
Projects:
- Work with Layton Public Library to collect Christopher
Layton and Stewart family histories that connect to Marriott
Family (Bill Marriott)
- Work with Daughters of the Utah Pioneers to coordinate
historical projects
- Work with the Weber State College on historical
projects
City Histories Subcommittee
Mission
There are a few cities and towns in the world where our ancestors
played a key role in the development and populating of the area.
We need to keep records of our impact on those areas and participate
in key historical events that shape the future of those areas
as they reflect on their past history and our part in it. Places
are
a key ingredient of genealogical research. They hold critical
puzzle pieces to figuring out who is related to whom.
Functions:
- Create an ongoing relationship with Marriott/Sladerville,
Ogden, Layton and other cities where our pioneer ancestors lived.
This includes early Mormon cities like Nauvoo and plains
cities
like
Garden Grove and Council Bluffs. The same with the ancestral
homeland in England with Ashton, Roade, Colmworth, Lincolnshire,
etc.
- Work with city and town historians and historical organizations
where our ancestors lived. Receive copies of city and
town histories for our website so our members can have access
to this information.
Chair: position open
Committee Members: Doug Marriott
Projects:
- Work with the leadership of the church in Roade
where Robert Marriott is buried.
Video and Tape Recordings
Mission
Current technology allows us to grow beyond pen and ink historical
documents, to listening to and seeing the actual recorded events
of our families’ history, through video and tape recording
processes. Those who take the time to bring together individual
pieces of that history into a threaded message of ancestral culture
and the talents of the past will help us have vision of our own
potential, as we see and hear the outcomes of our generational
DNA heritage.
Functions:
- Locate the oldest members of our family and
set up video taping opportunities to get their knowledge and
recollections of our past
ancestors, for they know many of them or heart stories about
them that they can share.
- Compile existing video and taped histories of our ancestors
into a life history for the organization membership to enjoy.
- Make available a process where members can secure copies
of these videos and tapes.
Chair: Jim Marriott
Committee Members: Bill Marriott, Leroy Wilson

of the Stewart family of Kayesville (project of Bill Marriott

Hyrum Marriott and their families (in possession of Russ and

Mission

of progressive cultures and ages. There are existing, various maps
and documents that show the locations of the homes and structures
of many areas.

for the archive history of English Cities, outside London.
