MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEES

We have a wonderful heritage and we are part of it. There are thousands of relations who have descended from our common ancestor, John Marriott, Sr. WE WANT TO FIND THEM.

GENERAL CHAIR: Susan McFarland

Membership Subcommittee

Mission
The membership subcommittee is in charge of finding and maintaining the excitement and interest of the society’s membership. They are in charge of soliciting potential members and orienting them to their membership opportunities and potential to help the organization by working with the volunteers subcommittee.

Functions:

  1. Make calls to all people on the descents subcommittee’s listing that are not currently members and invite them to become new members.
  2. Have an orientation discussion with all new members to help them now the opportunities associated with membership. Also, invite them to be a volunteer and to make a donation to support one of the societies many projects. Provide information to the volunteer subcommittee from interviews with new members giving talents and interests of these people.
  3. Determine the cost of membership for those who do not have email and require us to send them material like newsletters and other items that normally would be without cost and sent by email. Currently that cost is $5 per year for delivery by mail of the quarterly newsletter. We could also have another $5 for delivery of reports, photos, and other documents that are put on the website.

Volunteers Subcommittee

Mission
Managing the many volunteers who are interested in helping the society in various ways is the mission of this subcommittee. New members need to understand the many committees and subcommittees and their needs for volunteers who have various talents and interests. We need to discover these pre-existing interests and talents and find out how we can translate these items into action that will help the society.

Functions:

  1. Provide the volunteer task force of people to support all John Marriott Historical Society events and functions. Other committee chairs will make their requests to the volunteer subcommittee to find people to assign responsibilities and be available at different times to make their jobs work.
  2. Keep an active listing of members and their talents, from the membership subcommittee’s orientation interviews with new members.
