WHO
ARE WE?
The John Marriott Historical Society is a group of relatives of
John
Marriott, Sr. (1789 to 1849), christened in Roade, Northamptonshire,
England. We also invite friends of the family to participate with
us. We were organized in 1996 and officially incorporated June
11, 1998 in State of Utah as a non-profit corporation. By 1997
we had 625 members. On July 31, 1998, we organized the first family
reunion since March 6, 1924, when the last Marriott reunion was
held in Marriott, Utah. We held it in Ogden, Utah. We met at the
Marriott Hotel and had 425 attendees .
Hermoine Jex, over a period
of 35 years, did genealogical research and collected photos and
biographies of hundreds of families who were descendents of John
Marriott, Sr. In 1990 she completed her monumental work and
published her 2 volume 1,927 page, "Red Books" titled The
Marriotts: Workers of Flock and Field. These
are available on the web site in our online store.
There have been several genealogical and
Marriott historical research projects that have been sponsored
and funded by the society, in cooperation with the Marriott Heritage
Foundation, which is a federal tax deductible 501(c)3 charitable
non-profit corporation, chartered in the State of Utah. This work
has add several hundred new ancestors to our genealogy records,
that were previously unknown.
We will soon re-start our quarterly
newsletter, that ended in 1998, due to funding problems (a lack
of postage contributions). We will publish it quarterly in this
new web site, which will be our primary means of communication
with our members. For those who do not have the internet, we will
send
newsletters to you quarterly for contribution of $5 per year, to
cover postage. You can do this through our
Contributions page.
