Patriarchal Blessing — March 1, 1889

A blessing given by Patriarch, John Smith, upon the head of Ellen Morris daughter of William and Elizabeth Russell Morris, born in Marriott Ward, Weber County, Utah, 14 Dec 1869.

Sister Ellen Morris, thou art numbered among the daughters of Zion of which much is expected, and I say unto thee, honor they parents, and hold sacred their counsel, seek wisdom of the Father, and His blessings shall rest upon thee, open the eyes of thine understanding, and strengthen thy memory, for the Lord has a work for thee to do, in which thou shall see changes, and know of the assurity that there is a God in Israel who will hear and answer the prayers of the honest, be prudent, and study the law of nature, that thy days and years may be many, for it shall be thy lot to council among thy sex, and guide the minds of the youth. Therefore if behooves thee to follow the promptings of the monitor within thee, that the adversary may not take advantage of an unguarded hour, for he will lay briars in they way and snarls for they feet, thy guardian angel will whisper in thine ear and warn thee of danger and of events to come, that they pathway may be made clear, and peace be in thy circle for the Lord has a work for thee to do in which if thou art faithful, thou shalt see his arm made bear in behalf of His people, and His name glorified therefore. I say unto thee be prudent and thou shalt have the gift of discernment that evil designing persons shall not deceive thee but, thou shalt choose well thy part through the journey of life, and shall not lack for friends, food, raiment and shelter but, thou shalt be enabled to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort the hearts of the fatherless, that as a mother in Israel, they fame shall be known far and near, and thy name shall be handed down with thy posterity in honorable remembrance from generation to generation. Thou art of the lineage of Ephraim, and an heir to the blessings, gifts and privileges, of the new and everlasting covenant therefore look forward to the future, with a prayerful heart and an inquiring mind, and all shall be well with thee both here and hereafter, this blessing I seal upon thee in the name of Jesus Christ, and I seal thee up unto eternal life to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection with many of they kindred and friends. Patriarchal Blessing — June 8, 1898

A blessing given upon the head of Ellen Morris Marriott by Patriarch David M. Stewart, June the 8th 1898. Sister Ellen, by virtue of the holy priesthood, an in the name of the lord Jesus Christ, I confer upon you a patriarchal blessing.

Thou are of Israel through the house of Joseph, of the tribe of Ephraim, an heir to all the blessings, privileges, and promises made by God the eternal Father, in His house. Thou hast been preserved all they life long to become a mother in Israel, and an honored instrument in His hand, to bring forth a righteous offspring to hold the holy priesthood in His church and kingdom in the earth forever and ever.

The Lord has preserved you by His holy angels to be pure and holy for this purpose and thou shalt be blessed of the Lord in the future as thou hast in the past. For thy days are known unto the Lord. He had heard thy prayers and will answer them, and thou shalt be blessed with the desires of thy heart. And the Lord shall inspire you day by day to do good and be good. And He will inspire thy husband to love thee, and honor God, by keeping His commandments. Your way shall always be made open by the whisperings of the good spirit, and your wants will be provided for in righteousness. For you shall have of the good things of the earth, an abundance. Put your confidence and trust in the Lord your God, and He will never forsake you, but will comfort and cheer your heart when it is cast down, and you shall have joy and consolation in your children, and you shall live to see your children's children, and rejoice with them in the kingdom of God.

You shall have trials and troubles in your life, but the Lord will sanctify them for your good unto His glory. You shall be blessed of the Lord your God with every good thing temporally and spiritually. And you shall have joy comfort and consolation in your heart, for you shall learn the truth and rejoice in it all your life. And the truth will make you free from evil doers. You shall live upon the earth until you are perfectly satisfied with life, Even to the coming of the Lord Jesus, if you desire it with all your heart. And you shall be beloved by all who know you for your good works, among the mothers in Israel. For you shall be useful in their society all the days of your life. For you shall be useful in the kingdom of God. And a teacher among the rising generation, by precept and example. And you shall have revelations from God. And dreams and visions, and even the administration of angels. This is a gift from God unto you.

Live near unto the Lord your God, and all these blessings will be yours to enjoy upon the earth. And you shall be exalted to the fulness of a celestial glory in the kingdom of our God, among the pure in heart, who shall dwell in His presence. These blessings I seal upon you, with the blessings of eternal life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
