John Marriott
Another history by Carrie Hewitt

John Marriott's family participated in the move south in 1857, while he remained with others, to guard the property thy had there.

He married Elizabeth on 26 Feb 1954. They lived in Kaysville until 21 Feb 1855, then moved to Marriott. Grandpa had six children including the one lost at sea when he married Elizabeth. He had two children by his first wife after he married Elizabeth. She died a few days after Benjamin was born on 15 Dec 1858.

Another bit - Susan tried very hard to educate her husband and make him as refined as she was. But there were more important things to Brother Marriott than that. John and Susan were sealed in the Endowment House on 1 Apr 1857. She was endowed in the Nauvoo Temple.

A few days after Susan's last child was born she was getting along fine. One day she called John's second wife, Elizabeth, and told her she was going to leave them and asked Elizabeth if she would promise to care for her children. If she would do this she would die happy. So Elizabeth promised. Then Susan asked for her husband and she told him she was leaving.

After death she came to her husband three times in succession telling him her garments were not marked. Henry Reeder and another man dug her up the next day and Sister Bickington and Elizabeth went along and found her garments were not marked. After marking her garments she never appeared to her husband again.
